One of the problems for hobbyists to enter electronics world is high price for proffecional devices. Every electronics hobbyist have a lot of measurment and test devices, which he collect for long period of his life. Of cource he dont use all of them every day, but its clear dependence between instruments you use and quality of products you make. Some devices are chip and very functional (like multimeters), some are still very expensive (like oscilloscopes). In this project I want to make oscilloscope based on MCU and CPLD. Idea is to create cheap device with as much functionality as possible. It will contain few parts: oscilloscope, signal generator, logic analyzer, component tester. Oscilloscope will work in hobbyist regions of frequencies (up to few tens Msps) so its should be more than enough at the beginning. Logic analyzer will be based on CPLD and will work on freq. up to 100MHz. Signal generator will based on well known AD9850 chip. Component tester will include L,C,C electrolitic, R and transistor tester. As most of this tests will based on frequency measurments, so optional function will be also frequency measure. Device will have its own 3-5'' screen and will not requre computer connection. Total price should be less than 50 dollars.
