My project is a scrolling LED message board capable of receiving messages and displaying them via the MKR1000. The idea is primarily to use it as part of an alerting platform, for example when a server or application has failed, etc. Other uses could be to have it available at a party for guests to post messages onto, etc. The LED display would consist of affordable MAX7219-based 8x8 LED matrix modules, connected together to form a 96x8 matrix. It will be trivial to write code to interface with the matrix (there is already plenty of examples on the net). The interface will leverage JQuery Mobile to create a rich user interface available on any mobile platform (and desktop!). Messages will fall into a queue which will be FIFO-based. Additionally, when no messages have recently been sent to the unit, the MKR1000 could pull weather/traffic/news information from a variety of sources and display that information until more 'important' messages are submitted for display.
