While performing with a three piece instrumental band we decided to add some extra interest to our performances and songs by using samples, I came up with the solution of triggering these directly from my bass by adding some MIDI buttons, the output is via 5 pin din midi and can be connected to various devices ie. synths, computers or iPad with the correct interface. The notes are preset in the Arduino software and set to a C major scale, although limiting for lead synth (as its set to one musical scale) its proved excellent for sample triggering. I'm currently working on a "breakout box" housed within a guitar pedal enclosure that will allow me to change the key of the buttons by transposing the output notes, it will consist of a two rotary nobs, one for selecting root note and and the other for scale, with an LCD output screen to display current settings. the buttons are laid out in a gentle curve to mimic the natural shape of the hand, not only is this more ergonomic than a straight line its aesthetically pleasing as it mirrors the curves of the instrument.
the Arduino runs off a nine volt battery thats accessible from the rear of the instrument, not pictured is the cover plate that was added after this picture was taken.
