In my place, small online businesses are growing rapidly. Students are also getting involved in this type of online shop because it can be started with minimal investment and without any physical space. Recently I started an online shop for hobby electronics. My items includes a wide variety of electronics modules, sensors, components, and development kits. Most of the items are very small and lightweight. Those are organized in plastic boxes shown in the following image and each drawer contains multiple quantities of the same type.
Currently, we are manually picking the parts from the boxes and preparing the package for delivery to the customers. I was thinking of making the process automatic and at the right time the contest came. It is a great opportunity for me to bring my idea in reality. By participating in this contest I am getting the hardware support and CNC machining which is very crucial for my project.
The machine will be based on a 4 wheels moving robot. The robot will have a vertically moving mechanism with an integrated vacuum picking system. There will be a camera and a Raspberry Pi for reading QR codes. Every drawer of the plastic storage boxes will have a QR code printed in front. Raspberry Pi will read the QR code and identify the correct item. An Excel sheet will be generated across each order. The robot will read that order sheet, go to the cabinet, scan the QR code, pick the right items, and store them in a package.
See the block diagram below for better understanding.
The following image shows the tentative connection plan among different electronic parts.
