Budurasmala is an led display that represents the halo of lord buddha.
MotivationVesak festival is one of the most significant religious events in the world which commemorates the birth, enlightenment and passing of lord buddha. Since childhood I have seen beautiful light displays being put up on Vesak day and developing my own version has been a dream of mine for a very long time. This LED display is the result of 6 months of research and development.
How does it workWS2812B is an RGB LED which can be programmed to display any color. WLED is a firmware that can be burned to an ESP32 for controlling a sequence of WS2812B leds. I used xlights software to design various patterns for the led sequence and saved them in a raspberry pi zero which runs falcon player. Falcon player can connect to the WLED running on ESP32 wirelessly and execute the patterns on it.
PrototypingI first started with WS2812 8mm diameter LEDs with a laser cut flex board.
Then I wanted to make it less messy by replacing the wired 8mm LEDs with the surface mounted WS2812 LED strip.
Finally I wanted to design my own PCB with individual surface mounted WS2812B LEDs. I used EasyEDA software to design the schematics and the PCB. Since the copper routes are circular and complex I used Audtodesk Fusion 360 to design the routes.
